JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Adjunct Instructor Positions — Lifelong Learning and Adult Education Program The Lifelong Learning and Adult Education (LLAED) program in the Department of Learning and Performance Systems is seeking multiple
part‑time adjunct instructors
to teach
graduate‑level (master's) courses , as well as one
undergraduate course
that is focused on writing and speech communication for adult learners. The courses are offered in an online asynchronous format over 15 to 16 weeks per semester.
Courses may include topics such as:
Adult learning theory and practice
Health care education for adult learners
Distance education and instructional design
Educational research and assessment in adult education
Our program serves a diverse population of adult learners, including working professionals, career changers, and lifelong learners seeking personal and professional growth. We are committed to inclusive, high‑quality online instruction that reflects the values of adult education: learner‑centeredness, relevance, and accessibility.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Doctorate (Ph.D. or D.Ed.)in Adult Education, Lifelong Learning, Educational Leadership, Instructional Design, Health Professions Education, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in online teaching, including the use of inclusive pedagogies and adult learning principles.
Experience teaching adult learnersin higher education settings, particularly in asynchronous or hybrid online formats.
Familiarity with Canvas (Penn State's Learning Management System) or similar online platforms.
Ability to engage with students multiple times per week, providing timely feedback, facilitating online discussions, and supporting learner success.
Strong communication and organizational skills, with a collaborative and student‑centered approach.
Experience or interest in teaching courses for master's students related to health care education, adult learning, adult development, instructional design, or distance‑education is highly desirable.
