Assistant Wrestling Coach
Location:
Argentine Middle School, Kansas City, Kansas.

Job Goal The primary responsibility of the Assistant Wrestling Coach is to support the head coach in all phases and levels of the wrestling program, ensuring compliance with district, state, and KSHSAA regulations and promoting a safe, positive, and high‑performing environment for all student athletes.
Responsibilities
Enforce all rules of the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
Supervise student athletes during practices, competitions, and related events, ensuring activities are conducted safely and in accordance with district policies.
Maintain accurate records including pre‑participation physical exams, concussion forms, insurance waivers, activity consents, tryout agreements, emergency contacts, equipment inventories, and athlete statistics.
Verify that all students meet eligibility requirements (pre‑participation physical, concussion documentation, insurance waiver, activity consent, transfer eligibility, and ticket purchase) prior to participation.
Implement practice schedules, facility usage, and staff assignments, and submit schedules to administration to support efficient program operation.
Supervise practice sessions, maintain security of the locker room, and report all injuries to appropriate school officials following injury reporting policy.
Collaborate with athletic trainers to address safety, injury prevention, and athlete participation recommendations.
Organize uniform and equipment checkout, enforce equipment care rules, and maintain inventory throughout the season.
Assess student athletes during selection and placement, provide performance feedback, and maintain evaluation records.
Attend and support league meetings, coaching meetings, parent orientations, recognition events, and banquets.
Develop practice regimes focused on strength, speed, agility, nutrition, and injury prevention to enhance athlete performance.
Evaluate facilities and playing fields for hazards, recommend modifications, and facilitate safety improvements.
Oversee coaching personnel and student managers, assign duties, provide instruction on coaching techniques, supervise guidelines, and conduct written evaluations at season’s end.
Advise coaches, parents, and athletes on sportsmanship, KSHSAA Rule 52 compliance, and academic eligibility. Provide intervention for athletes needing academic support.
Report team scores and distribute public information releases as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Athletic Director.
Qualifications
Certified teacher or qualified for Rule 10 certification through KSHSAA.
Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Current CPR and AED certification.
Communication & Organization Maintains effective communication with school personnel, parents, and guardians to foster cooperation and meet student needs.
Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and regulations; produce reports, curriculum materials, and correspondence.
Physical Demands Regular requirements include sitting, walking, standing, and talking/hearing. Vision requirements include close, distance, and depth perception.
Work Environment Typical noise level is loud. Employees are responsible for student safety, work output, and well‑being.
Other Skills & Abilities Apply current research and theory to instructional programs; plan lessons aligning with school objectives; establish effective relationships with students, peers, parents, and the community; communicate clearly in written and oral form.
Terms of Employment Salary is based on the KCKPS Supplemental Pay Schedule. Employment status is FLSA non‑exempt. Reports to the Athletic Director or Building Administrator. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy. Applications will be reviewed prior to the closing date for this position.
