The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) is seeking an Environmental Scientist for its Air Permits Division. LDEQ’s mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection and promote health, safety and welfare.
Position Overview Environmental Scientists in the Air Permits Division draft permitting actions that protect and maintain air quality. This role requires sound scientific judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to review applications and correspondence from the manufacturing industry. Team members collaborate with Air Permit Writers to build knowledge and ensure permitting actions comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
Responsibilities
Collect Water Quality Data in the field as part of a sampling team or project lead.
Perform internal data review.
Maintain proficiency with equipment and procedures to train staff.
Assist with standard operating procedure maintenance and development.
Assist with maintenance and procurement of supplies and equipment.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear, physical science, engineering, geography/geosciences, natural resources, statistics, or quantitative methods field plus two years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program, GIS, or laboratory environment (LIMS, laboratory auditing).
A master’s degree in a related field plus one year of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program, GIS, or laboratory environment.
A doctorate in a related field.
Position‑Specific Details Appointment Type : Promotion – Internal Open (current permanent employees of DEQ only)
Domicile : East Baton Rouge
Compensation : This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER). The exact salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
Environmental Scientist 4: $27.41 per hour
Overview of the five major offices within the agency : Office of the Secretary, Office of Management and Finance, Office of Environmental Services, Office of Environmental Compliance, Office of Environmental Assessment.
