Position Summary The Fabricator is responsible for constructing high‑quality metal and/or wood components according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and project specifications. This role requires technical skill, precision, and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency. Fabricators support the production of custom‑built components used in a variety of commercial and architectural applications.
Primary Responsibilities
Read and interpret engineering blueprints and technical drawings.
Measure, mark, cut, bend, and route metals and other materials.
Set up and operate fabrication machinery including rollers, drill presses, torches, welders, brakes, and shears.
Fabricate metal and/or wood components using welding, gluing, fastening, and other construction methods.
Perform MIG, TIG, or laser welding depending on project needs.
Conduct grinding, finishing, and assembly of completed parts.
Perform quality control inspections on completed products.
Safely operate forklifts to move raw materials and finished goods.
Maintain equipment, report issues, and follow safety protocols.
Complete assigned tasks accurately and within expected timelines; track labor and materials per job.
Required Qualifications
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
Strong verbal communication skills.
Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently or within a team.
Problem‑solving skills, including identifying root causes and implementing solutions.
Familiarity with fabrication materials, tools, equipment, and processes.
Ability to stand for long periods and lift large custom pieces.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed.
Preferred Skills
Experience with MIG/TIG/laser welding.
Experience with CNC, laser cutting, or plasma cutting equipment.
Prior experience in architectural fabrication or custom manufacturing.
Computer Skills
Ability to use digital tools for timekeeping and inventory tracking (e.g., Global Shop, Paylocity).
Work Environment
Fast‑paced fabrication shop environment.
Requires adherence to all safety standards and PPE use.
Work may involve loud machinery, metalworking tools, dust, and physical labor.
Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $52000.00/yr.
