Ball Memorial’s Cardiac Progressive Care is an 18‑bed unit that specializes in cardiac patient population; HF; pre & post cardiac catheterization patients; pre & post CV surgery patients; arrhythmias; cardiac drips. On the Cardiac Progressive Care Unit, we use a multidisciplinary team approach consisting of nurses, physicians, patient care assistants, case managers, and secretarial support staff. We pride ourselves on our strong partnership and high‑quality care we deliver to our patients.

Unit Nursing Skills

Care of chest tubes and art lines

Managing and titrating drips

Management of drains, tubes, lines (ostomies, feeding tubes, central lines, etc.)

Surgical site care (sutures, staples, dressing changes)

Trach care

We have a UBC that meets monthly to discuss unit needs, concerns, and areas of opportunity.

We have multiple nurses who are professionally engaged through nurse lead councils and certification.

Unit Culture

We work to create a healthy work environment through accountability, engagement, and collaboration.

We encourage growth and development through certification, joining councils, etc.

6-8 weeks of orientation with a preceptor and classes. (cardiac dynamics, critical care basics, sheath class)

Qualifications

Requires an Associate of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Education: The Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.

Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.

Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.

Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
