Qualifications and Requirements A
Health Unit Coordinator
is an administrative professional responsible for managing the flow of information and clerical tasks within a busy department, ensuring efficient operations and effective communication among the medical team, patients, and families. This role requires strong organizational, multitasking, critical‑thinking, and customer service skills, along with familiarity with medical terminology.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Maintain and organize medical records and electronic health records (EHRs).
Manage unit supplies and equipment, ensuring timely reordering.
Answer and screen incoming telephone calls, relay messages, and schedule diagnostic tests.
Assist with preparing insurance forms and other administrative documents.
Act as a central communication hub, relaying physician orders, test results, and patient status updates to appropriate staff.
Provide clerical and administrative support to nurses and other medical professionals, maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.
Coordinate and document patient flow, ensuring accurate record keeping.
Assist patients, families, and staff with administrative questions, serving as a liaison.
