Responsibilities This role carries significant responsibility within the Senior Center Program, where the individual serves as an assistant to the Director of a versatile Senior Center, which may act as a central hub for community activities. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with the Director to advance the objectives of the center while also possessing the authority to oversee and manage the center independently in the Director's absence.

Essential duties include planning and leading a variety of arts and crafts classes, organizing and executing special programs and activities such as events, parties, and trips. The Assistant Director is tasked with securing knowledgeable speakers for the center's programs covering topics like life skills, education, nutrition, tax preparation, and health issues. The role also involves escorting groups of seniors on outings, ensuring that travel and meal arrangements are properly coordinated, prioritizing the well‑being of participants during these trips, and providing assistance in any unexpected situations. Additionally, the Assistant Director coordinates nutrition programs and activities, and manages the completion of membership and attendance forms for the center.

Work Schedule

Full‑time employment

Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.

Telework: This position does not allow telework.

Salary: Starting salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases.

Qualifications

Minimum three months of experience providing direct services to the aging population in a human services, education, or community‑based setting; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

You must meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement.

Hiring preference may be given to candidates who live within Luzerne or Wyoming counties. If no eligible candidates live within these counties apply, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.
