The City of Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an enthusiastic and organized Fitness Program Coordinator to lead and expand our community fitness and wellness programming.

This role is ideal for a fitness professional who enjoys program development, team leadership, and creating inclusive, engaging experiences that promote lifelong health and wellness. You’ll oversee programs from concept to completion—while supervising instructors, managing budgets, and ensuring high-quality offerings for the community.

What You’ll Do As the Fitness Program Coordinator, you’ll shape Kentwood’s fitness and enrichment programs by:

Program Development & Management

Creating, developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating diverse indoor and outdoor fitness and wellness programs

Managing registrations, schedules, staffing, and equipment needs

Developing, monitoring, and reporting program budgets and financial activity

Handling program-related transactions, refunds, and cancellations

Measuring program success through attendance, retention, and participant and instructor feedback

Identifying and resolving operational challenges to maintain program quality

Staff Supervision & Leadership

Hiring, onboarding, training, and supervising fitness instructors, seasonal staff, and volunteers

Providing ongoing coaching, guidance, and performance evaluations

Customer Service & Administration

Serving as a point of contact for participants, instructors, and community members

Responding to inquiries and concerns within one business day

Maintaining accurate program records, reports, and inventory

Professional Collaboration

Promoting a welcoming, inclusive, and professional environment

Actively contributing ideas to enhance programming and service delivery

About You You’re a motivated leader with a passion for fitness and community wellness. You enjoy balancing strategic planning with hands‑on execution and thrive in a collaborative, public‑facing environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, parks administration, physical education, or a related field

Two years of professional experience in recreation programming or facility/community center supervision

Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Certified Personal Trainer

Valid Michigan Driver’s License

CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within six months of hire)

Pay & Benefits

Hourly pay range: $25.99–$33.20, depending on experience

10% employer retirement contribution — well above industry average

Up to 4 weeks vacation, 12 sick days, 11 holidays, and 3 personal days annually
