The City of Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a motivated, organized, and community-focused Sports Program Coordinator to lead and grow our youth and adult sports programming.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about recreation, enjoys developing programs that bring people together, and thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. You’ll oversee programs from planning through execution—while supervising staff, managing budgets, and ensuring high-quality, inclusive experiences for participants.

What You’ll Do Program Development & Management

Creating, developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating indoor and outdoor sports programs and events

Managing registrations, schedules, staffing, and equipment needs

Developing, monitoring, and reporting program budgets and financial activity

Handling program-related transactions, refunds, and cancellations

Measuring program success through attendance data, retention, and participant feedback

Identifying and resolving operational challenges to maintain program quality

Staff Supervision & Leadership

Hiring, onboarding, training, and supervising coaches, instructors, seasonal staff, and volunteers

Providing ongoing support, guidance, and performance evaluation

Customer Service & Administration

Serving as a point of contact for participants, parents, coaches, and community members

Responding to inquiries and concerns within one business day

Maintaining accurate program records, reports, and inventory

Professional Collaboration

Promoting a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment

Actively contributing ideas to improve programs and service delivery

About You You’re an organized leader who enjoys balancing big-picture planning with day-to-day execution. You communicate clearly, manage details well, and are comfortable supervising staff while serving the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in sports management, recreation management, parks administration, physical education, or a related field

Two years of professional experience in recreation programming or facility/community center supervision

Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Valid Michigan Driver’s License

CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within six months of hire)

Pay & Benefits

Hourly pay range: $25.99–$33.20, depending on experience

10% employer retirement contribution — well above industry average

Up to 4 weeks vacation, 12 sick days, 11 holidays, and 3 personal days annually
