The College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University, invites applications for a non-tenure (clinical) track assistant/associate/full professor position in veterinary diagnostic microbiology. The position is in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine and the Diagnostic Laboratory Services (DLS), which is part of the Mississippi Veterinary Research and Diagnostic Laboratory System. Microbiology Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Supervision of the diagnostic microbiology laboratory. Overseeing diagnostic testing, necropsy, and referral samples. Oversight of the day-to-day operation, including technical oversight of testing, personnel training, and maintenance of procedures. New test development and communication with clients. Handling aerobic and anaerobic cultures, mycology, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Participation in teaching in the veterinary curriculum, in both the pre-clinical and clinical phases. DVM or equivalent with an advanced degree in bacteriology, microbiology, or related discipline. Demonstrated collegiality and teamwork. Excellent individual and group communication skills. Demonstrated interest in teaching DVM students. Minimum of 2 years (DVM with PhD) or 4 years (DVM with MS) of laboratory experience in bacteriology, mycology, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Preferred Qualifications

5 years of diagnostic laboratory experience. Preference for Board eligibility/certification by ACVM or equivalent. Applicants with knowledge of mass spectrometry technology (e.g., MALDI-TOF MS) and molecular diagnostics. The DLS is a part of the AAVLD fully accredited Mississippi Veterinary Research & Diagnostic Laboratory System. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially related to client service. Capable of working in a team environment comprising faculty, doctors, staff, and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students. Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands. Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
