The Registered Nurse is a professional practitioner who assesses, manages, directs, and provides nursing care activities during the patient's hospital stay and coordinates planning with other disciplines utilizing a patient/customer driven approach. Job Responsibilities and Requirements
Essential Functions : The following are essential job accountabilities and performance criteria. Performs comprehensive nursing assessment/reassessment. Establishes, coordinates and evaluates a plan of care based on assessment data, patient diagnosis, lab data, tests, procedures, physician orders, protocols and standards of care. Provides and documents nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, plan of care, and changes in patient status. Includes collaboration with health team members, accurate handoffs, medication administration, IV/parenteral care, referrals, documentation, physician orders, and patient/family education. Documents and communicates nursing care and changes in patient condition; evaluates effectiveness of care and education; modifies plan of care as indicated. Specialized Care: Provides care to patients at high risk for injury, including restraint and pain management procedures as defined in policies; abuse assessment as applicable. Demonstrates accountability for professional practice and maintains currency in hospital/unit information, policies, and procedures; participates in meetings, governance, and unit activities. Safety/Infection Control: follows safety and infection control policies; maintains a safe environment; completes annual mandatory requirements; reports risk management concerns; adheres to hand hygiene and Safe Patient Handling techniques. Service: delivers service excellence, communicates effectively, protects patient confidentiality, and supports teamwork and handoffs. Performance Improvement and Evidenced Based Practice: contributes to unit goals, stays current with EBP, participates in performance improvement activities and research as warranted. Age-appropriate care: provides care appropriate to adult and geriatric populations; involves family in decision making. Cost Effective Services: uses resources efficiently and documents charges; prioritizes tasks to complete work on time. Disclaimer: Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Minimum Education : Licensed to work as an RN in the state of Missouri. Working Conditions : May be exposed to blood borne pathogens; varying and unpredictable situations; may work irregular hours. Physical Requirements : Occasional standing/walking; lifting and transferring patients; occasional reaching, bending, kneeling. Practice and Professional Standards
