Payroll Manager | $135k–$150k + 10% Bonus
Location: DC
Our client, a $1B+ innovator in the tech/saas space, is poised for further growth with a 15% revenue increase last year. They’re seeking a Payroll Manager to optimize, and oversee U.S. payroll operations.
Overview This is a hands-on payroll leadership role focused on system optimization, automation, and process refinement rather than routine maintenance. The Payroll Manager will function as the internal Workday Payroll authority, reducing external consultant dependency while improving accuracy, audit readiness, and scalability.
Key Focus Areas
Lead end-to-end U.S. payroll operations across multiple pay cycles
Manage and develop a small, experienced payroll team, serving as escalation point for complex issues
Own Workday Payroll configuration, calculations, testing, and enhancements
Identify and implement automation opportunities to reduce manual intervention and improve controls
Support payroll tax activities, reconciliations, and year-end processes
Contribute to long-term payroll strategy, including pay-cycle simplification and system standardization
Ideal Background
8–10+ years of progressive payroll experience in complex environments
5+ years of hands-on Workday Payroll experience (configuration and troubleshooting)
Prior experience leading payroll teams, not solely processing
Strong understanding of payroll compliance, tax, and payroll accounting
Comfortable operating in a high-visibility, deadline-driven environment
Process-improvement mindset with interest in automation and modernization
Preferred: CPP and/or Workday Payroll certification
