Director of Nursing , a role that is deeply
clinical, hands-on, and leadership-driven . This is not a purely administrative position. We are seeking an experienced nurse-leader who is actively engaged in patient care oversight, clinical decision-making, and in-field support-someone who leads by example and remains closely connected to the care being delivered.
As Director of Nursing, you will oversee both
medically complex home health/private duty nursing
and our
Adult Family Homes (AFHs) , with regular, direct involvement in the homes. You will work alongside nurses and caregivers, provide clinical guidance, conduct in-person oversight and evaluations, and ensure the highest standards of
quality, safety, and regulatory compliance . This role is a true blend of
hands-on nursing, clinical leadership, and operational responsibility -designed for a DON who still identifies as a nurse, values bedside realities, and takes ownership of outcomes across teams, homes, and patients.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and mentor nursing teams
across both Home Health and Adult Family Home (AFH) settings, fostering collaboration, accountability, and clinical excellence.
Oversee clinical operations and compliance , including CHAP standards, HIPAA, and state/federal regulations, while managing staffing, referrals, and patient placements.
Drive quality improvement initiatives , covering safety protocols, infection control, policy development, and performance outcomes.
Support organizational preparedness , including disaster planning, emergency response protocols, and staff training.
Act as a clinical leader and liaison , providing expert guidance on patient care and risk management, while collaborating closely with the CEO, Governing Body, and interdisciplinary teams.
Qualifications Required: We're looking for a seasoned nursing leader with:
an
active, unrestricted Washington State RN license
and a
BSN
At least
5 years of clinical experience
in home health or private duty nursing, including
1+ year working with tracheostomy and ventilator-dependent patients
2+ years of supervisory or management experience
in a home-based or Adult Family Home setting
Strong knowledge of
CHAP standards , HIPAA, and healthcare regulations
The ability to
lead independently , manage clinical complexity, support staff, and respond to emergencies
Physical ability to lift 40 lbs, perform CPR, and handle on-call duties
A
valid driver's license
and comfort traveling to client homes and AFH sites
Preferred:
A
Master's degree
in Nursing or a related field
Experience leading
CHAP accreditation
or clinical compliance programs
Familiarity with
Lean Six Sigma
or other system improvement methodologies
A background in
infection control
and
disaster preparedness
Proficiency in
Microsoft Office and clinical documentation systems
