Job Description Student Health and Wellness Center is a primary care medical clinic for USF students. Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurses provide medical evaluation and care by appointment. Specialty services include sexual health & gynecology, dermatology, behavioral health, sports medicine, travel medicine, and antigen clinic. Lab services are available on site. We also assist students with immunization and insurance compliance, and administer the student health insurance plan. This position is a key member of the clinical care team at the University of South Florida Tampa location. Special Skills or Training: Medical Assistant Certification required. Phlebotomy skills experience.
Responsibilities
35%: Skilled in performing blood draws, responsible for collecting blood samples from patients in a safe, accurate, and timely manner. Duties include preparing collection equipment, verifying patient identity, explaining procedures, ensuring patient comfort, labeling specimens, and transporting specimens for processing.
30%: Assists in the screening of patients presenting for a medical evaluation by a Provider by appointment/walk in/urgent care to include, but not limited to, taking vital signs, weight, height, calculate BMI, obtaining chief complaint/history, allergies, current medications, LNMP for females. Documentation into patient's medical record the information obtained and place patient into examination room for evaluation by Provider. Assist with Phlebotomy and point of care testing.
20%: Carries out Provider orders for onsite patient care, to include but not limited to EKG; administration of oral, IM or subcutaneous medications. Monitors patients admitted to the Infirmary for observation under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Receives telephone calls related to patient care. Uses established triage procedures/protocols to manage messages. Places telephone calls to patients and/or outside facilities as directed by Provider/Registered Nurse to relay instructions for care, orders, follow up instructions.
5%: Assists Provider in examination, procedure/minor surgery such as suturing, incision and drainage of skin abscess/cyst, debridement of finger/toenail, removal of foreign body. Provides pre and post procedure instructions/care to the patient as directed by the Provider/Registered Nurse.
5%: Maintains adequate supplies in examination rooms, cleaning and setting up rooms between patients and at the end of the day. Monitors the level of medical/patient care supplies and alerts, by established protocol, the Registered Nurse in charge of any need for restocking. Prepares and processes instruments for sterilization using steam sterilization autoclave on site. Monitors and maintains autoclave functions by following guidelines for cleaning and biological monitoring with documentation into logs provided.
5%: Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with two years experience in a position that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training (i.e., medical assistant or equivalent clinical training) may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Specific training/experience may be required depending upon the specialty area of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Must have Certified Medical Assistant Certification, BLS Certification and Phlebotomy knowledge and skills required.
