Material Estimator
to join our team.
Job Summary The
Material Estimator
is responsible for preparing accurate material take-offs and cost estimates for single-family and multifamily residential projects. This role requires a strong understanding of wood construction, blueprints, and estimating software to support competitive bidding, job costing, and material purchasing efforts. The Material Estimator reports directly to the Lead Material Estimator.
Responsibilities
Prepare detailed material take-offs for single-family and multifamily projects.
Interpret and understand architectural drawings, engineering plans, specifications, and project scopes.
Set up, maintain, and update price sheets for recurring production builders.
Estimate plan revisions and change order requests accurately and efficiently.
Perform cost analysis to identify the most efficient and cost-effective construction methods.
Size beams and other structural components as required.
Track, manage, and follow up on pending bids.
Maintain accurate bidding records and job costing data files.
Communicate effectively with designers, field staff, purchasing team, and customers.
Assist with lumber and building material purchasing as needed.
Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and accuracy
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in construction management or equivalent, project management, or business preferred but not required.
Minimum 2 years of estimating experience required.
Extensive knowledge of residential blueprints and construction documents.
Understanding of wood-frame construction methods.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
Willingness and ability to learn new software programs.
Experience with MiTek or Alpine preferred but not required.
Experience with estimating software, such as PlanSwift, preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer workstation
Ability to work in a standard office environment with occasional exposure to yard or construction settings.
Occasional lifting of office materials or plan sets up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment
Primarily works in an office setting with extended time at a computer workstation.
Collaborative setting with frequent interaction among estimating, design, purchasing, and operations teams.
