Histotechnologist Senior – Rex Anatomic Pathology
Join UNC Health as a Histotechnologist Senior in Rex Anatomic Pathology, located in Raleigh, NC. This full‑time position requires a dedicated individual who is passionate about medical tissue testing.
Description Perform a variety of specialized medical tissue testing. The work involves preparation of tissue samples, enabling pathologists to determine the cause of death, degree of disease, and appropriate treatment. Serve as a technical resource, working closely with the supervisor for scheduling, workflow management, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Act as a backup to the supervisor as needed.
Responsibilities
Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and workflow.
Monitor daily operation of laboratory section or work area.
Participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.
Perform non‑routine, more complex test procedures. Prepare tissue slides by processing, embedding, sectioning, examining, and staining tissues received from surgical pathology, autopsy, hematology, cytology, and research areas.
Perform quality control and equipment maintenance.
Provide leadership and guidance to co‑workers.
Report results to healthcare providers. Consult/confer with healthcare providers regarding test results.
Review test results to ensure accuracy of record and timely correction of errors.
Act as Lead Technologist or Program Manager in areas such as quality control, education, competency, equipment, and safety.
Train new employees and teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents. Serve as a technical resource.
Qualifications Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Biological Science.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
HTL(ASCP) certified by the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC).
HT(ASCP) certified by the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) and 5 years of direct immunohistochemistry experience.
EM certification from Electron Microscopy Society for Certification #1 and #2.
Professional Experience Requirements:
If Bachelor degree plus completion of NAACLS accredited histology program, two (2) years of relevant laboratory experience.
If Bachelor degree in biological or chemical science, three (3) years of relevant laboratory experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
EM certification from Electron Microscopy Society for Certification #1 and #2.
