Required License/Registration/Certification: Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state RN license in good standing, and AHA Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.
Physical Requirements: The essential functions for this position include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds on a daily basis and 25-50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time; and may involve exposure to communicable diseases, hazards of radiation, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
Shift: Must be able to work two 12-hour shifts, every Saturday & Sunday (7a-730p). Work 24 hours every week, receive premium pay and benefits – this position is part of the Weekend Premium Plan (WEPP).
Job Summary Registered Nurses in the Adult Medicine Services Unit on PAV A 10th Floor at UK Chandler Hospital provide care for adult patients who are moderately stable, with fluctuating patient acuity, complex needs, and require comprehensive care. Patient care will include frequent assessment of pulmonary, renal, cardiac, vascular and neurological conditions.
Responsibilities
Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate a comprehensive nursing plan of care
Deliver direct patient care
Ensure patient satisfaction
Train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistant)
Adhere to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations
Support collaborative efforts among nursing staff and physicians to enhance patient outcomes using the nursing process and patient‑centered plan of care
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework, and Swanson’s Caring model
Superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills
Basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet
Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with patients, families, co‑workers, and physicians
Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills
Highly motivated, proactive, and confident in advocating for patients and their families
Enjoys working in a strong team environment with open, honest communication
Exceptional technical skills and proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Education / Experience BSN + at least 1 year of RN experience preferred.
Seniority Level Entry level.
