$59,534 - $74,418 annual compensation

A Sr. Construction Inspector job is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation & Public Works Department, Capital Delivery Division. The selected candidate will be responsible for supervising, reviewing and understanding plans and overseeing construction projects involving utility, storm drainage, concrete and asphalt paving for conformance with plans, specification and contracts. This individual will establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, utilities, the general public and other employees. The candidate should be a responsible, dependable and extremely detail-oriented individual who is willing to learn.
Minimum Qualifications
HS diploma/GED supplemented by college level course work in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, or a related field
Three (3) years of Construction Inspection experience involving the construction and maintenance of public works systems and structures
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Two (2) years’ experience with water/sewer, storm drainage, and concrete/asphalt
Two (2) years’ supervisory experience
Microsoft Office computer skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Responsibilities
Leads staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; ensuring staff is trained in their areas of work including construction inspection methods, techniques, and the set up and use of equipment; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment.
Reviews proposed change orders for scope of work and appropriate pricing. Evaluates and makes recommendations on proposed changes. Participates in negotiating change orders; prepare final edition of change order.
Schedules and attends pre-construction meetings and final inspections.
Conducts Site Inspections on Complex projects, responsible for driving a City vehicle.
Ensures compliance with building and construction standards, codes, ordinances and regulations.
Acts as liaison between contractors and the general public with respect to various construction projects.
A strong interpersonal, management, and excellent communications skills with the unique ability to be able to transfer these concepts clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing with the development community and internal City staff.
Promote, establish, and maintain effective working relationships.
Knowledge of and expertise with Microsoft Office Suite.
Working Conditions Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises.
Physical Demands Light Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
