Description of Work This Assistant Plant Manager position is located at the Mt. View Correctional Institution Sewing Plant in Spruce Pine, NC. This position reports directly to the Correction Enterprise Manager II and supervises 3 Correction Enterprise Supervisors as well as 65 to 85 offenders and all aspects of safety, quality, production, and inventory. Mt. View Sewing is a production-based operation and must therefore meet production schedules. Mt. View Sewing is located inside the Mt. View Correctional facility so communication with facility staff is required.

Job Responsibilities

Training of Correction Enterprise Supervisor II (CES II) staff on all aspects of daily plant operations.

Training CES II staff and offender staff to operate various types of sewing equipment.

Scheduling work assignments.

Monitoring production, quality, attendance and safety.

Maintain fixed asset inventory of machines and equipment and production materials.

Maintain safety reporting.

Conduct visual surveillance of plant operations to ensure custody and security of offenders and facility.

Other duties as directed by management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Management Preferences

Training and supervision of subordinate staff

Knowledge and operation of various types of sewing equipment

Knowledge and experience of fixed asset inventory of machines and equipment

Custody, supervision, safety and training of offenders

Special Qualifications

Eligibility for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Must be at least 20 years of age and a citizen of the United States.

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Pass psychological testing as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Pass physical examination as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Pass drug screening as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Attend and successfully complete 6 weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT) at a Training Facility, scheduled during the 2nd week of employment.

Minimum Education And Experience Associate degree in Applied Science in industry related field or a minimum of two years of experience in related line of production/service, and one year of management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
