The Austin office of Thompson Coe, LLP seeks an associate attorney with 2 to 5 years’ experience in construction litigation to join the Professional Liability section of the firm. Candidates should have a working knowledge of state and federal civil procedure and excellent advocacy and writing skills. Litigation experience—taking and defending depositions, drafting and arguing motions, and attending mediations—is preferred, and experience with billing is strongly preferred. A valid Texas BAR license is required.
Responsibilities The associate in this position will work on construction litigation cases and matters, focusing on defending architects, engineers and other design professionals, as well as general contractors and subcontractors, in design and construction defect, indemnification, contribution and other professional negligence claims. The associate will handle day‑to‑day aspects of this work, including client meetings, reporting and investigation, and taking and attending depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations and/or trials. Depending on the size and exposure of the case, the candidate will either independently handle the case or work closely with a partner.
Qualifications
2–5 years’ experience in construction litigation.
Working knowledge of state and federal civil procedure.
Excellent advocacy and writing skills.
Experience taking and defending depositions.
Experience drafting and arguing motions.
Experience attending mediations; arbitrations and trials preferred.
Billing experience strongly preferred.
Valid Texas BAR license.
