Our HR generalist will handle benefits administration and payroll processes and manages employee health insurance, retirement plans, and other perks, ensuring accurate payroll data, timely payments, and compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local laws. They also act as a liaison for employees, answering benefits questions and coordinating open enrollment, while maintaining confidential records in an HRIS and ensuring benefits deductions align with payroll. This position reports to the Senior HR Manager.

Key Responsibilities
Benefits Administration:
Manages various benefit programs, such as health, dental, vision, and retirement plans (e.g., 401(k)).
Provides information and counsel to employees and retirees on benefit plans, policies, and enrollment.
Handles new hire enrollments, life status changes, and the annual open enrollment process.
Reconciles monthly benefit invoices and audits plan enrollments to ensure accuracy.
Processes and coordinates FMLA and disability claims by distributing and submitting necessary paperwork.
Payroll Processing:
Prepares and inputs payroll data, including wages, bonuses, deductions (garnishments, taxes, insurance, 401(k)), and time-off balances.
Ensures timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll.
Collaborates with managers and accounting teams to resolve payroll discrepancies and process changes for new hires, terminations, and salary adjustments.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.
Provides records and documentation for payroll and benefit audits.

Works closely with Sr. HR Manager to ensure HR coverage and back up/cross training
Actively updates and maintains HR best practices and processes supporting an employee-centric workplace.
Tracks applicant information and leverages HRIS for reporting purposes.
Essential Skills and Duties:
Data Management:
Maintains accurate employee records within an HRIS (Human Resources Information System).
Compliance:
Stays current on labor laws, regulations, and best practices to ensure company-wide compliance.
Communication:
Serves as a liaison between employees, benefits providers, and payroll/accounting teams.
Reporting:
Creates reports for various stakeholders and assists with ad-hoc reporting and analysis.
Problem-Solving:
Addresses employee inquiries and assists in resolving issues related to benefits and payroll.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in human resources or closely related area.
Current HR certifications (SHRM-S/CP or HRCI S/PHR) or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire.
Four years varied Human Resources experience with progressive responsibility.
Experience maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records and data in HRIS
Experience in payroll processing and benefits management
Proven ability to navigate workplace conflict.
Effective and proactive leadership, team communication, facilitation, problem solving, and decision making.
Evidence of the highest level of ethical behavior and practice; able to generate trust among colleagues, staff, and leaders.
Non-profit and/or public media industry experience highly preferred.
Maintains strict adherence to the organization’s policy on confidentiality in all matters and other business information about the organization.
Skilled with Word, Excel, and Outlook, and standard office equipment.
