Job Description General Functions This position designs, creates and maintains computerized databases. Responsible for quality control and auditing of databases to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data. Works with management to develop database structures to meet needs. Undertakes maintenance, monitoring and tuning efforts of databases. Resolves data conflicts and errors in databases.

Work is performed with independence and initiative under the general supervision of the IT Project Leader. Performance is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and achievement of desired results.

Representative Duties/Assignments

Responsible for the installation and upgrades for database systems.

Monitors and tunes relational databases.

Designs and develops complex databases with technical teams. Helps technical staff resolve relational database issues and problems.

Assists new project development utilizing relational databases and Operations staff with database backups and restores as needed.

Provides on-call support as needed.

Maintains current technology expertise.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

AI Data Engineer

Designs and manages vector database infrastructure (Azure AI Search, Pinecone, PostgreSQL pgvector) for semantic search and AI retrieval applications across county departments.

Builds and maintains document processing pipelines that ingest county documents (PDFs, Word files, policies, procedures) and convert them to AI‑ready formats using chunking, embedding generation, and indexing.

Implements and optimizes Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) systems that enable AI models to answer questions using county‑specific knowledge bases and documentation.

Develops data quality monitoring and evaluation systems to measure AI retrieval accuracy, identify stale or conflicting information, and maintain knowledge base integrity.

Administers traditional relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL) that support AI applications, including backup/restore, performance tuning, and security configuration.

Implements data governance and access controls for AI data including role‑based permissions, audit logging, and compliance with public records requirements, as well as provide on‑call support as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or closely related field and five (5) years experience with recent database administration, monitoring, tuning and problem resolution.

Minimum Qualifications – AI Data Engineer

Database administration with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar enterprise RDBMS.

ETL/data pipeline development and data engineering.

Understanding of data governance and security in government/regulated environments.

Vector database technologies (Azure AI Search, Pinecone, pgvector).

Python or PowerShell scripting.

Preferences – AI Data Engineer

Experience with vector databases (Azure AI Search, Pinecone, pgvector, ChromaDB).

Working knowledge of AI embeddings, semantic search, and RAG architectures.

Python or PowerShell scripting for data engineering workflows.
