POSITION DESCRIPTION: We are looking for a Technical Program Manager (TPM) to join our Residential Applications team, driving the planning and execution of backend services that power APIs, databases, integrations, and business workflows. These services enable mobile, web, and device software that help homeowners adopt renewable solar energy systems.
In this role, you will own the delivery strategy for the backend initiatives, ensuring seamless integration across platforms and delivering robust, scalable applications for homeowners, partners, and administrators. You will collaborate with engineering, product, and business teams to align priorities and delivery high-impact solutions that advance our mission of accelerating clean energy adoption.
This position is based out of Santa Clara, CA (with San Francisco, CA and Irvine, CA as acceptable alternate locations) with 20% business travel (domestic and international).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Leadership:
Work closely with backend engineers to own end-to-end delivery of backend initiatives, including API development, database architecture, and service/application integrations.
Cross-Team Coordination:
Align engineering, product, and business stakeholders; manage dependencies across mobile, web, and embedded teams.
Technical Depth:
Understand backend architecture, distributed systems, and integration patterns to identify risks and unblock teams.
Execution & Governance:
Drive long-term and short-term planning, roadmaps/schedules, status reporting, risk management, and ensure compliance with infrastructure, security and scalability standards.
Stakeholder Communication:
Provide clear updates to leadership and partners on progress, risks, and mitigation plans, ensuring plans are well prioritized according to organizational goals and shared success.
Continuous Improvement:
Optimize collaboration and operation workflows and improve delivery predictability.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years in technical program management or similar roles in software engineering organizations.
General understanding of backend systems (APIs, databases, microservices, cloud platforms).
Expertise in planning, execution, and delivery of complex, multi-team programs; Agile experience required.
Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments (Azure, AWS).
Travel may be required up to 20%, depending on business needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Solar Industry experience (Renewable).
Software engineering experience.
Ability to work with REST APIs and query databases.
The salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications.
