Responsibilities

Under general supervision, cleans teeth, examines head, neck, and oral areas for signs of oral disease.

Educates clients on oral hygiene and develops x-rays or applies fluoride or sealants; may serve as lead hygienist.

Perform patient screenings, fluoride treatments, and clean calcareous deposits and stains from teeth.

Inspect gums and supporting structures; check lymph nodes for signs of oral cancer; provide oral hygiene instructions and assist patients with paperwork.

Coordinate community outreach events with schools, head-start programs, YMCA and other partners; prepare supplies and event paperwork; provide dental school screenings.

Provide front desk assistance when needed and maintain infection control standards across clinics.

Assist the dentist with x-rays and exams; prepare operatory and sterilize equipment; maintain supplies.

Develop educational presentations for health fairs, school career days, and community events.

Maintain documentation of conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment planning by a dentist.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree in dental hygiene from an accredited college or university; current Georgia dental hygienist license; and two years of related experience.

OR:

One year of experience at the lower level Dental Hygienist 2 (HCT011) or position equivalent.
