DMC Sinai‑Grace Hospital is DMC’s largest hospital, offering a comprehensive heart center, cancer care, gerontology, emergency medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, and cosmetic services.
Its joint replacement program features a revolutionary minimally invasive knee and hip replacement surgery that attracts patients from across the country. Sinai‑Grace operates more than 21 outpatient care sites and ambulatory surgery centers throughout Wayne and Oakland Counties.
Job Summary Reports to the Director, DMC Nutrition Services. Conducts a nutrition assessment for all patients identified at nutritional risk to determine an appropriate plan of nutrition therapy that meets their assessed needs.
The assessment includes evaluation of medical history, medication/herbal supplement history, anthropometric measurement, lab values, diet history, and age‑specific, cultural, religious, and learning factors.
Develops Nutrition Care Plans that include nutrient requirements and education. Records the assessment in patient records using DMC‑approved documentation.
Responsibilities
Acts as a resource for hospital personnel and medical staff regarding nutrition; participates in multidisciplinary rounds and provides education to various departments.
Researches and develops programs for dietetic interns; provides specialized and general nutrition instruction.
Participates in research projects and nutrition‑related programs.
Works with outside agencies to obtain ongoing assistance for patients as appropriate.
Maintains hospital and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and process improvement; provides input on improving processes and patient care.
Inventory and orders office and tube feeding supplies.
Monitors and directs foodservice personnel to ensure optimal nutritional food service; follows up with patients to ensure adherence to the dietary regimen.
Formulates special recipes or plans to meet specific patient needs.
Promotes guest relations and provides good customer service in a quick and courteous manner.
Promotes the value of DMC by demonstrating behaviors supportive of quality, community welfare, respect, teamwork, communication, innovation, education, and efficient resource use.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition/Dietetics.
Completed a dietetic internship in a healthcare setting (6–12 month supervised practice program).
Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or eligibility to take the registry exam within 6 months of internship completion.
Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required if working with patients with inherited metabolic disorders.
