Rubicon is seeking an Operations Support Engineer to support the Polyurethanes Division located in Geismar.
Job Scope Troubleshoot problems with chemical manufacturing processes in assigned areas. Support unit turnarounds and commission process improvements. Evaluate process equipment and processes to identify ways to optimize performance and assure compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Monitor performance of processes throughout reaction and purification steps to determine interaction of process variables such as temperature, pressure, residence time, composition. Design replacement equipment and plan layout of new equipment. Design monitoring and control systems improvements based on data trending and analysis.
Summary The main challenge of the position is to assist in improving and optimizing operations within the assigned process production areas. The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. Choosing the right mathematical methods and formulas to solve a problem. Applying general rules to specific problems to make sensible recommendations. Combining pieces of information to form general rules and find hidden relationships. Communicate information and ideas so that others will understand. In problem solving, the general approach and specific activities will be agreed with the Team Leader and results will be closely reviewed.

Working within Rubicon’s guidelines for professional and ethical conduct.
Determining causes of operational problems or failures.
Evaluating characteristics of process equipment and systems.
Proposing improved operating methods.
Monitoring the productivity and cost efficiency of assigned unit(s).
Providing support for operations to assist troubleshooting difficult issues requiring technical support.
Becoming technically proficient in the assigned process(es).
Serving as process representative for MOCs, PHA’s, LoPA’s, and interfacing with other departments.
Design improvements to processing systems within assigned unit(s).
Understanding and complying with safety and environmental regulations.
Identifying areas for professional development and growth.
Qualifications You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus.
The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Rubicon in the United States.
B.S. in Chemical Engineering. Minimum of 3 years experience required.
Knowledge of chemical composition and properties of the chemicals used and an understanding of chemical reactions they undergo.
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and costs.
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the processing of chemicals from raw materials to final products, awareness of all assigned processes, including auxiliary units, geometry, calculus, probability, statistics and their applications, trained in or capable of learning Aspen simulation software, advanced Excel techniques, regression analysis, and developing and understanding PFD’s and P&ID’s.
The position is 100% technical.
