Title : Manufacturing Engineer
Location : Rockford, IL 61125
Hire Type : Long–Term Contract
Pay Range : $65–$75 per hour

Sterling Engineering is partnering with a well‑established client in the advanced manufacturing and aerospace components industry to hire a Manufacturing Engineer. This role supports plant operations by providing hands‑on manufacturing engineering expertise, driving process improvements, supporting new equipment implementation, and collaborating closely with production, engineering, and leadership teams.
Responsibilities
Provide hands‑on manufacturing engineering support to resolve complex production and process issues
Support capital equipment selection, justification, and implementation
Design and improve cell layouts, workflows, and manufacturing processes using Lean and basic Six‑Sigma tools
Support DFMA principles and new product introductions
Partner with production teams to troubleshoot the manufacturing floor and implement process improvements
Create, maintain, and update process documentation, work instructions, and engineering changes
Initiate and support Process Flow Charts, PFMEA, and Control Plans in compliance with Quality System requirements
Communicate project status and operational updates to management and customers as needed
Collaborate with vendors, procurement, and cross‑functional or multi‑site teams
Learn from senior engineers and support the development and training of team members
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Engineering or related technical field
2+ years of professional engineering experience (or equivalent combination of experience and advanced education)
Basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts
Strong problem‑solving, troubleshooting, and root‑cause analysis skills
Ability to read and interpret mechanical and/or electrical drawings
Strong written and verbal communication skills
