The Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) will administer medications with safety techniques and sound judgment under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current federal and state regulations and established company policies.
JOB DUTIES
Administer medications including oral, PRN, inhalers, nebulizer treatments, topical and rectal ointments, nasal sprays and drops, eye ointments and drops, ear ointments and drops, and non‑invasive treatments.
Observe residents for drug reactions and report any concerns to the nurse immediately.
Monitor residents vital signs.
Calculate medication dosages and stock the medication cart.
Document medications given for the day on the medication administrator record (MAR) chart.
Report to the nurse on duty general and specific information related to residents’ response to medications or treatments.
Receive nurse instructions before administering any PRN medication.
Audit documentation to assure accurate, complete, and timely recording of medications and treatments.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS & ABILITIES
Adheres to resident rights and personnel policies.
Understanding of federal and state regulations.
Understanding of the special needs and limitations of the elderly.
