RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as lead worker completing tasks such as mowing grass, trimming, blowing & edging, or operating equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, tractors, weedeaters, blowers, trimmers, or mowers.
Assign work areas to crew members, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and departmental safety regulations.
Supervise and assist with landscaping: planting trees and flowers, mulching flower beds, pruning trees, shrubs, decorative grass, and watering plants.
Perform periodic inspections of equipment and make minor repairs; repair broken pipes, sewer lines, water lines or sprinklers as required.
Mow and trim assigned property; remove brush, tree limbs, and leaves; trim and edge curbs and sidewalks.
Plant and fertilize trees, shrubs, grass, and flowers on assigned property as directed; spray for weeds in flower beds and on lawns.
Complete required paperwork for area of responsibility.
Attend safety classes, reinforce and comply with company safety policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferably four years of progressively responsible work experience in the Public Works Industry or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. High School Diploma or GED required. Valid state driver’s license and meeting minimum driving standards.
Knowledge of business math operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, computing ratios, rates, and percentages.
Skill in handling or using machines, tools, equipment, or relevant work aids. The job involves judgment regarding standard attainment and equipment selection.
Ability to read simple sentences, write and speak simple sentences using basic grammar. Perform semi‑routine work following procedures with occasional problem‑solving.
Working Conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, bright and/or dim light, dust or pollen, intense noise levels, vibration, fumes or noxious odors. All required safety standards shall be adhered to mitigate risk from moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, heights, blood‑borne pathogens, traffic, animals and wildlife, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other identified hazards.
Physical requirements: frequent standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing; use of hands to operate and manipulate tools and equipment; very heavy physical exertion including lifting over 50 pounds and exerting over 100 pounds of force. Willingness to work non‑standard and overtime hours. Requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and depth perception.
