Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic (Shop) – Dobbs Equipment, LLC
Summary Of Primary Functions
Dobbs Equipment is seeking an experienced Service Technician. Technicians are responsible for the repair, diagnosis, overhaul, and reconditioning maintenance of customer and company heavy equipment and components. Depending on the location and assignment, the technician may be responsible for some or all of the following functions. Repairs may require work beyond the normal schedule for emergency calls or routine service.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments while maintaining a safe work environment.
Recondition, repair, service, and assemble any machines/industrial equipment.
Diagnose problems and determine what repairs are needed.
Perform inspections as required.
Check and report any shortages and malfunctions to the Service Manager.
Maintain records and account for all time, parts, and supplies used in repairs.
Handle customer problems objectively and tactfully.
Assist in directing helpers or trainees and provide instructions as required.
Complete dis‑assembly and inspection efficiently so parts may be ordered and work scheduled promptly.
Perform all service tasks as assigned by the Service Manager, Supervisor, or Shop Foreman.
Prepare reports and forms required in conjunction with job assignments.
Report additional work required to ensure proper operation and safety of equipment.
Participate in service training programs for skill development.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Report shop tools or equipment that is not serviceable or unsafe to the Service Manager.
Represent the dealership as a professional Service Technician at all times.
Operate trucks and equipment with extreme care and caution.
Maintain shop tools, equipment, vehicles, and employee belongings.
Report to work on time, as scheduled.
Work up to 12‑hour days, varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Operate company vehicles and follow all motor vehicle state safety laws.
Adhere to the safety policies of Dobbs Equipment and its clients.
Qualifications
Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
Knowledge of industrial equipment maintenance and operation.
Ability to perform basic repairs and maintenance using specialized tools and following Technical Manual procedures.
Ability to operate heavy equipment safely around the shop.
Education, Skills, and Experience Requirements
Associate degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school, or a minimum of 2 years of related experience (preferred).
Stay current with technical changes.
Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Current product knowledge of John Deere and competitive products.
Forklift Certification (preferred).
Effective communication with teammates.
Strong problem‑solving skills.
Excellent time‑management skills.
Self‑management and self‑motivation.
Flexible schedule, including occasional weekends or overtime.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write diagnoses and complete routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to written, oral, or diagram instructions.
Develop skills in disassembly, assembly, and repair of components and machines.
Mathematical proficiency (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
Quick learner who can think creatively.
Overnight travel of less than 5% (training).
Bilingual language skills a plus.
Work Environment The employee works in a service shop setting with frequently changing temperatures, wet or humid conditions, noise, vibration, fumes, odors, dust, and close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
Physical Demands
Use Personal Protective Equipment (welding shields, hard hats, vests, safety glasses, goggles, gloves).
Full range of motion for back, arms, hands, fingers, legs (including climbing, twisting, squatting, pushing).
Use hand tools, fuel hoses, lubrication systems.
Climb onto or down from mobile construction equipment (typically 3‑4 feet).
Lift/carry loads >50 lb but
Close, distance, and color vision required.
Talk or hear at moderate noise levels.
