Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic
Dobbs Equipment, LLC seeks an experienced Service Technician to repair, diagnose, overhaul, and recondition heavy equipment and components. Depending on the location and assignment, the technician may perform some or all of the duties listed below. Additional work outside normal hours may be required for emergency calls or routine service.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Follow all safety rules and regulations while maintaining a safe work environment.
Recondition, repair, service, and assemble any machines or industrial equipment.
Diagnose problems and determine required repairs.
Perform inspections as required.
Report shortages and malfunctions to the Service Manager.
Maintain records of time, parts, and supplies used for repairs and services.
Handle customer problems objectively and tactfully.
Assist in directing the work of helpers or trainees and provide instructions as needed.
Complete disassembly and inspection efficiently to allow parts ordering and scheduling.
Perform all service tasks assigned by the Service Manager, Supervisor, or Shop Foreman.
Prepare all required reports and forms for job assignments.
Report additional work needed to ensure equipment operation and safety.
Participate in service training programs to develop skills and knowledge.
Maintain a clean work area and perform work in a neat and orderly fashion.
Report unsafe shop tools, equipment, or vehicles to the Service Manager.
Represent the dealership professionally at all times.
Operate trucks and equipment with extreme care and caution.
Maintain and care for shop tools, equipment, vehicles, and other employees’ belongings.
Report to work on time, as scheduled.
Work up to 12‑hour days, varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Operate company vehicles and follow all state motor vehicle safety laws (if necessary).
Adhere to the safety policies of Dobbs Equipment and client companies.
Follow safety policies of Dobbs as a condition of employment.
Qualifications
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Knowledge of industrial equipment maintenance and operation.
Ability to perform basic repairs using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures.
Ability to operate heavy equipment safely in the shop.
Education, Skill, and Experience Requirements
Associate degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school, or at least two years of related experience (preferred).
Stay current with technical changes.
Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Maintain current product knowledge of John Deere and competitive products.
Forklift certification (preferred).
Effective communication with teammates.
Strong problem‑solving skills.
Excellent time‑management skills.
Self‑management and self‑motivation.
Flexible schedule; weekends or overtime as needed.
Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Write diagnoses and work reports in routine reports and correspondence.
Apply common sense in following written, oral, or diagram instructions.
Develop skills in disassembly, assembly, and repair of components and machines.
Perform basic arithmetic in all units of measure.
Quick learner with creative thinking.
Limited overnight travel ( Bilingual a plus.
Work Environment Work is performed in a service shop setting with frequently changing temperatures, wet or humid conditions, noise, vibration, fumes, odors, dust, and close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
Physical Demands
Use personal protective equipment such as welding shields, hard hats, vests, safety glasses, goggles, and gloves.
Full range of motion for back, arms, hands, and fingers.
Full range of motion for legs, including climbing, twisting, squatting, and pushing.
Use hand tools, fuel hoses, and lubrication systems on all equipment.
Climb onto or down from mobile construction equipment (typically 3–4 feet).
Frequently lift or carry loads greater than 50 lbs but less than 75 lbs.
Proficient vision (close, distance, and color).
Regularly speak or hear at moderate noise levels.
