The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solving the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Electronics Section is integral to the operational effectiveness of the NYPD, directly responsible for providing reliable and uninterrupted communication capabilities. The command ensures the functionality and operability of mobile radios as well as low voltage systems across the city.

The Electronics Section seeks two qualified candidates to fill the role of P/T Computer Associate, Level II. Under direction, with great latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the selected candidate will direct and supervise the activities of a unit or group of subordinate employees; perform technical support activities; provide citywide IT incident support, leverage advanced troubleshooting skills and incident management methodologies.

Responsibilities

Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions

Perform system validation, preventative maintenance, hardware diagnostics, software updates, and physical system upkeep

Accurately document all service activities, system changes, and resolution steps

Support data migration, system upgrades, and other critical field-based projects

Minimum Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in mainframe computer, mid-range computer, LAN or WAN computer environments and/or local desktop support; or

An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university and three years of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in "1" above; or

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory, full-time experience, as described in "1" above; or

Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. Undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits, from an accredited college or university, for six months of experience. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of satisfactory full-time experience, as described in "1" above.
