We are seeking a Data Center Facility Manager to serve as a technical resource and leader within Amazon data centers. The role ensures overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed service levels for data center operations. The Facility Manager is responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment within the data center, maintaining high reliability and performance while managing operating costs. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.

This role acts as Amazon’s front line for hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. The individual will maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission-critical data center facility equipment including electrical support equipment (stand-by diesel generators and fuel systems), 3-phase electrical systems (switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, wet cell batteries and related systems), CRAC units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers/water chemical systems, air handlers, pumps, and motors. Additional scope includes fire suppression systems, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.

Key job responsibilities

Oversee all aspects of the data center's critical physical infrastructure. Ensure work is performed to high quality and without impact to internal/external customers.

Manage teams of 24x7 engineering technicians in all facets of their careers.

Engage in improvement projects, coordinating with various support teams to drive from conception to completion.

Coordinate daily with third-party vendors to ensure adherence to contracted SLAs.

Effectively and efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures.

Routinely operate as the after-hours on-call Data Center Facility Manager for the region, responding to issues and leading investigation, mitigation, and recovery.

Demonstrate a strong commitment to prioritizing the development and well-being of team members and fostering diversity and inclusion.

Oversee all facets of the data center's critical infrastructure with a focus on continuous availability and optimal performance.

Drive process optimization, staff management, set performance metrics, and lead continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining a supportive and inclusive work environment.

Manage tasks for 24x7 engineering teams, coach staff, and develop documentation and best practices.

Monitor and control operations expenditures and ensure optimal resource allocation.

Coordinate with third-party vendors to ensure SLAs are met and safety procedures are followed.

Communicate complex technical information to diverse stakeholders and non-technical audiences.

Address after-hours emergencies and be an escalation point for facilities-related issues.

Deliver operational excellence and foster a diverse and inclusive team culture.

Perform physical tasks and work in varying environments with appropriate PPE as needed.

Support multiple locations/sites and provide on-site management for builders, five days a week (no remote work).

Qualifications Basic Qualifications

2+ years of people management and team development experience

5+ years of engineering work managing large-scale services experience

Experience maintaining SLAs through proactive issue detection and reporting

High school or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years in a management position with 5+ direct reports

5+ years in data centers with emphasis on building and equipment operation

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field

Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in critical data center operations (feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS, ATS, PDU, chillers, pumps, AHUs, CRACs)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $119,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $227,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on factors including market location and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Depending on the position, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total package.
