Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, Nursing Assistants provide empathic care to patients, families, and visitors under RN supervision. They communicate patient care information, encourage patients, and support families with integrity and respect.

Duties

Change dressings, give enemas, douches, irrigation as directed

Apply hot/cold compresses, hot water bottles, aqua K pads, ice bags, coolers

Chart and document care and behaviors

Take vital signs: temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration

Attend to daily living activities, personal hygiene, and basic needs

Assist with feeding to ensure appropriate nourishment

Bathe and dress; brush teeth; trim fingernails and toenails

Maintain patient rights, dignity, confidentiality

Perform housekeeping tasks related to direct care to keep the clinical environment clean and orderly

Qualifications

Nursing Assistant I – possession of required knowledge, skills and abilities during the probationary period

Nursing Assistant II – one year satisfactory full‑time experience under professional supervision

Preferred: NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certified nursing aide training, one year patient‑care experience, High School Diploma or GED

Compensation Salary range: $ – $ per year. Additional supplemental pay may include location pay, shift differentials, inconvenience pay, and geographic pay. Total compensation includes generous leave, health plans, and a state pension.
