Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, Nursing Assistants provide empathic care to patients, families, and visitors with the highest degree of integrity and respect. Under RN supervision, they communicate face‑to‑face with patients and visitors, convey information on treatments, and support those who may be despondent or apprehensive. Candidates demonstrate excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, knowledge of patient care, and ethical decision making.
Duties
Change simple dressings, give enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
Apply hot water bottles, aqua K pads, ice bags, and hot and cold compresses as directed.
Chart and document care and/or behaviors as required.
Take temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, and respiration rate.
Attend to daily living activities, personal hygiene, and simple human needs to maintain a comfortable clinical atmosphere.
Feed persons requiring assistance to assure appropriate nourishment.
Bathe, dress, brush teeth, and trim fingernails and toenails of persons in care.
Maintain persons in care rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
Perform housekeeping and cleaning duties related to direct care to keep the facility clean, sanitary, and orderly.
Qualifications
One year of satisfactory full‑time experience providing simple treatments and other patient care services under professional supervision.
Possession of or ability to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities during the probationary period.
Preferred NY State Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved training program, one year of patient care experience, and a High School Diploma or GED.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
Pre‑employment physical examination and medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine Employee Health Services.
Electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
4‑panel drug screen.
Regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings.
Copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
