Job Description Summary
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi‑skilled activities to support a decentralized patient‑centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Responsibilities include measuring and documenting vital signs, identifying patient concerns and reporting them to colleagues, and moving, turning or relocating patients as required for comfort and medical needs. The PCT must exhibit patience, empathy, intuition, good communication and organizational skills to interact with the Manager, Charge Nurse, and other Care Team members.

Qualifications
Min. Training & Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Minimum 1 year patient‑care work experience in a health care facility or Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
Basic Life Support required upon hire; must maintain current BLS certification.
Effective communication and organizational skills.
Patience, empathy, intuition.
Physical Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking. Ability to climb stairs. Ability to work indoors and outdoors, in temperature extremes. Ability to work from elevated areas, in confined spaces, from kneeling positions, bend, twist at waist, squat, pinching operations, gross motor activities, firm grasping, fine manipulation, reach overhead, repetitive motions, use both legs, balance, coordination. Ability to lift and carry 50 lb unassisted, lift items 36 inches, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lb, exert up to 50 lb of force. Vision 20/40 corrected, hearing acuity, peripheral vision, ability to deal with stress. Work rotating shifts, overtime, latex safe environment, respirator use if selected positions.
Additional Job Description Minimum Requirements: At least 1 year work experience in a .6 fte PCT I position at MUSC CHS or 1 year patient‑care work experience in a health care facility; or a college degree, or active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals; or enrollment in a healthcare related field; or Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant, or equivalent training. Credentials: BLS required within 2 weeks of hire and maintained thereafter.
