Performs assessment/data collection focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status. Implements care in a knowledgeable, skilled, consistent, and continuous manner according to established procedures, policies, and care plans. Identifies patient and family learning needs, readiness for learning, and provides patient teaching per policy and care plans. Documents in the patient’s chart (electronic medical records or paper) per policy and regulatory requirements. Demonstrates respect for patient, family, and significant other rights regardless of race, age, religion, creed, sex, national origin, or ability to pay. Delegates patient care activities appropriately and supervises assigned staff as needed. Maintains organization and priority setting with sound critical thinking. Uses lines of authority appropriately; may function as Charge Nurse, including assigning/re-assigning, coordinating admissions/discharges/transfers, coordinating staff coverage, and leading the unit as needed. Maintains professional growth through seminars, workshops, and affiliations to stay current in the field. Follows safety requirements, including security, infection control, equipment, and disaster readiness. Ensures compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and labor agreements. Maintains courteous interface with team members and other groups, reflecting the organization’s values. Represents the organization professionally in appearance and conduct. Handles additional accountabilities as required by management to meet organizational standards. Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Current Washington State RN licensure. Experience as an acute care RN preferred; minimum one year of RN experience preferred for specialty departments. Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for all assigned patients. HCP-level BLS within 30 days of hire – AHA or equivalent. Mother Baby Unit – Preferred Qualifications & Competencies
AAP NRP Advanced required for all RNs in MBU prior to end of orientation; renewed every 2 years. STABLE course within 6 months of orientation; renewed every 2 years. OB ALS online course within 6 months of L&D training; renewed every 2 years. AWHONN’s Intermediate Fetal Monitoring required within 3 months of L&D training; Advanced Fetal Monitoring acceptable. RN-C in specialty preferred. Physical Requirements
Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs; manual dexterity to manage equipment for 8–12 hours per shift. Strength for CPR and moving patients/equipment as needed; ability to handle high-stress environments. Good vision and communication skills appropriate for patient and team interactions. Competencies
Critical thinking and independent problem solving; accountable within legal and ethical guidelines. Crisis management; competency in care across age groups. Proficiency with department equipment as listed on checklists.
