Scientist, Microbiology – The Alfred Foundation Join the Alfred Health Microbiology Department as a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist. The role is permanent part‑time (48 hours per fortnight) based at Alfred Hospital.

Responsibilities

Perform microbiology testing according to documented laboratory protocols within acceptable time frames.

Roster: 5 weekday shifts and one weekend shift per fortnight; rotations include day, evening and overnight shifts.

Support diagnostic services for infectious diseases, trauma, organ transplantation, HIV, and bone marrow transplantation.

Skills / Qualifications

BSc or BAppSc major in Microbiology; applicants must qualify for professional scientist membership of Australian Institute of Medical Scientists or Australian Society for Microbiology.

Experience performing diagnostic microbiology testing (specimen set‑up, culture, reading, interpretation).

Excellent attention to detail, good communication skills and ability to function well in a team environment.

Ability to organise own work to ensure time frames are met.
