The Chicago Sky are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach to support all aspects of athlete performance. This full-time role works closely with the Head of Athletic Performance, performance staff, medical team, and coaching staff to optimize player health, readiness, and physical development throughout the WNBA season and offseason. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, elite basketball environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities Player Development & Coaching

Assist in designing, coaching, and monitoring strength, power, conditioning, and mobility programs for all players.

Deliver individualized training programs based on physical assessments, positional demands, and player needs.

Coach on-court warm-ups, activation, and movement sessions for practices and games.

Support return-to-play physical preparation in collaboration with medical and performance staff.

Provide consistent, high-quality coaching cues to ensure safety, technique, and transfer to game performance.

Performance Testing & Data Support

Assist with physical and performance assessments (strength, speed, power, movement).

Collect, organize, and interpret performance data and collaborate with sports science staff on reporting.

Contribute to player monitoring processes, including workload tracking and readiness metrics.

Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with the Head S&C Coach and performance team to align training with practice load, travel, and scheduling.

Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to integrate performance insights with medical and coaching staff.

Communicate effectively with players to promote understanding, buy-in, and accountability.

Logistics & Operations

Help manage weight room operations, maintenance, equipment setup, cleaning, and safety standards.

Assist in preparing training spaces (home and travel) and managing equipment transportation.

Maintain documentation, programming records, and athlete files in accordance with team and league requirements.

Compliance & Professional Standards

Contribute to a high-performance environment emphasizing trust, accountability, and excellence.

Maintain all required licensure and certification as strength and conditioning coach.

Comply with WNBA protocols, documentation standards, and organizational policies.

Follow all HIPAA, WNBA, and team confidentiality standards regarding player health and performance information.

Maintain a consistent professional presence, including availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and extensive travel.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Strength & Conditioning, or related field.

CSCS (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist) required.

CPR/AED certification.

Experience coaching in collegiate, elite, or professional sports settings.

Demonstrated ability to coach movement, strength, and conditioning principles effectively.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in related field

USAW, FRCms, or other complementary certifications.

Experience with force plates, GPS, and performance technology systems

Experience working in the WNBA, NBA, or elite women’s basketball.

Background in return-to-play programming and interdisciplinary performance models.
