Directional Drill Manager
in Little Canada, MN. The Directional Drill Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing employees daily to complete the scheduled work on time, safely, and in budget with limited supervision. This position must be able to lead people and take full responsibility for the Underground Directional Drill Operators.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for managing all operational aspects of the drill scheduling and project completions.
Planning, coordination, personnel oversight, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with industry standards.
Project Planning & Execution: Oversee and take ownership of the operational planning and execution of all projects; develop project schedules, allocate resources, and coordinate with Area Supervisors and Foreman.
Recruit, train, and develop high-performing field personnel to support project execution.
Lead and mentor employees, fostering professional growth and operational excellence.
Provide clear leadership, targeted training, and constructive performance feedback to drive productivity and uphold the highest safety standards.
Enforce safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA and company standards; conduct site inspections, safety audits, and incident investigations as needed.
Assume ultimate responsibility for quality outcomes by monitoring project performance and proactively identifying gaps in compliance, documentation, or execution; oversee enforcement of quality assurance procedures ensuring consistency across all crews; respond decisively to quality concerns, implementing corrective actions to minimize rework, schedule delays, and cost overruns.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement by reviewing lessons learned and integrating best practices into future projects.
Monitor and plan equipment & logistics; oversee mobilization and demobilization of drilling equipment; in conjunction with the fleet team, ensure coordination of equipment maintenance, repairs, and availability of drilling consumables and supplies.
Budgeting & Reporting: Monitor project budgets, job costs, and implement cost control measures; prepare and submit reports as required.
Internal and External Communication: Represent the organization as the senior leader to clients, regulatory inspectors, and utility stakeholders; maintain strong working relationships and project transparency; attend meetings, provide updates, and ensure client satisfaction throughout all projects.

Position Requirements
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Post secondary training in construction Management, Business or Engineering preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum five years of experience in utility construction focused on operating/drilling, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Valid driver’s license required.
Comfortable navigating active work sites, adhering to strict safety protocols, and communicating effectively with on-site personnel.
Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required, and flexibility is essential due to changing site conditions and project needs.

Compensation Compensation: $100,000-$125,000/year or hour depending on position (Compensation will depend on qualifications and experience).
