Histology Technical Supervisor The Technical Supervisor for Histology/Pathology Services manages the histology staff and the technical operations of the Histology Laboratory and IHC areas. Under the direction of the Pathologists and Laboratory Operations Director, investigates, writes and implements technical procedures and policies relative to histology processing, staining and microtomy and immunohistochemistry procedures. Establishes efficient and effective workflows for these areas, identifies and resolves technical issues in the department. Collaborates with other supervisors/leads and staff in identifying, planning, and implementing performance improvement projects. Functions as a Histotechnician as needed.

Areas of Responsibility Histology workflows, personnel training and evaluation, quality, inventory management, and equipment performance.

Qualifications Education:

Associate Degree. In addition, at least six (6) years of pertinent laboratory experience and/or training covering the specialty(ies) or subspecialty (ies) in which he/she performs tests.

Licensure/Certifications:

ASCP Board of Certification, to include Histotechnician (HT) for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or Histotechnologist (HTL) ASCP.

Experience:

A minimum of 6 years of relevant histology experience, including microtomy, embedding, staining (including special stains as well as H&E), immunohistochemistry (IHC).

Demonstrated leadership and communication skills, including 2+ years of lead and/or supervisory experience.

Clear understanding of regulatory requirements, including those pertaining to chemical reagents, facility, and biohazardous waste.

Strong work ethic and drive to lead process improvements and capability expansion within designated lab areas.

Previous experience as a Histotechnician sufficient to demonstrate competency in a highly technical environment required.

Experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
