Mechanical Engineer Position Summary Design, test, and troubleshoot new solutions and improvements for an innovative line of rotating electrical connectors for customers’ unique needs worldwide. This position interacts with fellow engineers, sales, and manufacturing groups within the company to develop rotary electrical connectors and solutions that meet the unique requirements of different industries, environments, and specifications.

Duties

Design, develop, and test custom rotary electrical connectors from concept to production.

Have direct involvement in creating test criteria and setups for new prototypes and designs, mechanical and electrical in nature.

Develop work instructions and other supporting documentation for manufacturing and production teams.

Using Solidworks - Create drawings and supporting information for the purpose of conveying the design intent and functionality.

Have a fundamental understanding and be deeply involved with all aspects of design, manufacturing, assembly, first-article qualification, production, and functionality within the ERP.

Maintain the schedules and forward momentum of large and small projects, in order to meet customer and market-driven demands.

Work with machine shops and other vendors in order to optimize design manufacturability and meet deadlines.

Be an instrumental part of a cohesive electrical and mechanical engineering team to collaboratively work on developing new products, troubleshooting problems, and achieving performance, reliability, and cost improvements.

Education

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or closely-related field

Qualifications / Requirements

4+ Years of experience as a mechanical engineer or related position

Exceptional 2D and 3D CAD experience with Solidworks

Build and troubleshoot prototypes, including machining and modifying parts

Experience with complex multi-part assemblies and tight-tolerance parts

Experience with manufacturing, machine shop practices, tolerances, and other production processes

Familiarity with documentation control and revision histories

Solid working knowledge of Google Suite and other computer skills

Ability to pass a drug and background screening

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Experience using rotary seals, O-rings, bearings, and other rotating mechanical devices

Experience with Arduino and/or Python programming

Experience designing and executing product tests, product validation, and/or HALT testing

History of using chemistry knowledge that applies to material interaction

Knowledge and understanding of ISO, CE, UL, IEC and other certifications

Ability to measure and analyze tolerance-critical components and familiarity with GD&T

Basic knowledge of electrical engineering principles

Ability to realize and aid in solving production / manufacturing related issues

Experience with machining (lathes, mills, etc.)

Familiarity with materials selection and qualification
