This is technical work operating and maintaining water treatment plant and auxiliary facilities; operating water pumping and treatment systems safely and efficiently. Employee works in a lead capacity and assists in training the operation and maintenance personnel. Employee is required to work assigned rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays and may be assigned on-call duty.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and equipment used in water treatment operation and maintenance.
Working knowledge of water treatment plant facilities, equipment, and operating practices.
Working knowledge of practices, methods, materials, and tools used in the mechanical trade.
Skilled in operating and maintaining water treatment plant equipment.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions; ability to promote safety practices.
Ability to accurately record data; prepare and maintain clear and concise reports.
Ability to perform routine mechanical and/or electrical repairs; conduct routine laboratory tests; handle chemicals properly and safely.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to perform assigned duties; perform heavy manual work in all weather conditions.
Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver bulky and heavy materials; lift objects up to 75 pounds.
Training, Certification, and Experience
High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by course work in water treatment operations theories and principles or wastewater treatment operations.
Special Requirements
Possess Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Drinking Water Plant Operator Class “A” Certification; Ability to obtain certifications in accordance with FDEP certification program guidelines.
