Primary Purpose A leading contributor to software development projects. Performs software programming along with other software development lifecycle activities (requirements, design, test, documentation, 2nd and 3rd level support). Has extensive experience and is an expert at basic programming concepts within standard architectural patterns. Has experience with and is proficient with more advanced architectural patterns (MVC, MVP, MVVM), Service Oriented Architecture, SOLID programming concepts, and application security. Helps establish ARUP software practices. Usually relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. May lead and direct the work of others. Proficiency in Python is needed to be successful in this role.

Essential Functions Reviews, analyzes, and modifies programming systems including coding, testing, debugging and documenting programs. These programs may include desktop applications, interfaces, web applications, stored procedures, or other software artifacts depending on specific job responsibility.
Adheres to ARUP’s enterprise software development policies and departmental software development processes.
Maintains expertise in applicable software development tools, techniques and environments.
May help or mentor other project team members.

Physical and Other Requirements Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
Education Required High School Diploma or Equivalent or better.
Preferred Associates Degree or better in Computer Programming or related field.
Bachelor's Degree or better in Computer Programming or related field.
Experience Required Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in a software related field and three (3) years of applicable work experience Or High School diploma (or equivalent) and five (5) years of applicable work experience
Team player that is willing to experiment with new technologies
Interest in data science and working with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
Experience doing basic Linux server administration tasks; bash scripting, Docker deployment, Apache web server installation/management
Preferred Moderate proficiency with Python. You should know package management, conda virtual environments and decorators.
Experience with Amazon Web Service offerings, especially S3, Glacier, EC2, and IAM permissions.
Basic knowledge of data analysis and modeling algorithms including; data binning/clustering, regression and machine learning.
Working with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, CouchDB, or Cassandra
Basic understanding of GraphQL API design
Knowledge of cluster computing (HPC, Batch Computing, Scientific Computing)
