Job Title:

Job Summary The 1:1 works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) in the school and functions as a member of the team and provides specialized 1:1 health-related services for chronically ill, medically fragile, and injured students as assigned or delegated. The 1:1 nurse may require specialized training by the school nurse in accordance with written specialized health care procedures and health services protocols. The 1:1 will practice in accordance with the laws governing nursing in South Carolina and the health services policies of the school district.
Essential Duties
Reinforces the health promoting behaviors of individual students and staff using health program protocols and approved educational materials.
Performs specific procedures and treatments with physician orders under the supervision of the registered school nurse to include, but not limited to, catheterization, suctioning, tracheotomy care, and tube feedings.
Provides nursing care procedures as defined in the Individual Health Care Plan (IHP) or as assigned or delegated by RN.
Assists the school nurse, school, and parents in maintaining the medically fragile student while in school.
Administers first aid, medications, treatments and diet as authorized and prescribed by a licensed physician or other health care provider, in accordance with the nurse Practice Act and as stipulated by the supervising registered school nurse.
Maintains accurate documentation, records, and confidentiality of information in accordance with school district standards.
Reports information and concerns to registered school nurse.
Job Specifications
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required)
Licensed as a Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
A minimum three years of experience (school nursing, public health nursing, emergency room, or pediatrics experience PREFFERED).
Current driver's license.
Current CPR certification.
Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and reach with hands and arms; walk; sit; stoop or kneel; crouch or crawl.
Additional Physical Requirements
Physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds;
Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus;
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time;
Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry;
Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids;
Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; and
Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
