We are recruiting a Financial Aid Advisor for the Office of the Student Financial Aid at the University of Iowa.
Responsibilities
Revise financial aid awards according to special circumstance requests, appeals, and professional judgment decisions.
Educate and advise parents and students (in-person, via email, phone) about financial aid policies, procedures, application processes, and federal, state, and institutional aid programs, including counseling in emotionally charged situations.
Represent the Office at outreach events, workshops, orientation sessions, and admissions recruiting trips, presenting financial aid information to groups of 300+.
Provide individualized loan counseling to students with private, federal, and institutional loans to encourage minimization of debt.
Direct and oversee Big10 Academic Alliance CourseShare, Traveling Scholar, and Regents Exchange Program registration and grade entry transactions throughout the academic session.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience.
At least six months to one year experience in a post‑secondary academic setting or related budgeting/counseling/education role.
Desired
M.A. in Student Development or related field.
Working proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook.
Basic proficiency in knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures.
Working proficiency: developing and implementing financial aid programs and policies, needs analysis and federal verification, basic understanding of Federal Methodology.
