Job Summary The Property Accountant is responsible for the financial reporting, accounting, and analysis of assigned real estate properties. This role ensures accurate financial records, compliance with accounting standards, and timely reporting to property managers, owners, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate has strong accounting skills, attention to detail, and experience in real estate or property management accounting.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties
Record and reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank, escrow, and balance sheet accounts
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including tenant billings and rent rolls
Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries
Reconcile property operating accounts and investigate discrepancies
Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis
Prepare CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations and tenant bill-backs
Support year-end close, audits, and tax preparation by providing required documentation
Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
Coordinate with property managers regarding financial performance and reporting issues
Maintain accurate records for leases, contracts, and capital expenditures
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate or property management
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
Experience with property management/accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, RealPage, or similar)
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to manage multiple properties and meet deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
