Property Accountant (Hybrid – Houston Area) A confidential real estate owner/operator is hiring a Property Accountant to manage the full accounting cycle for a portfolio of commercial properties. This role is ideal for someone who has strong experience in retail, office, or mixed-use property accounting and a track record of stable, long-tenured roles.
What You’ll Do
Oversee day-to-day accounting for assigned properties, including tenant activity, A/P review, cash receipts, and monthly recurring charges.
Prepare financial statements, reconcile balance sheet accounts, record accruals, and support monthly close.
Handle CAM and tenant recovery work, percentage-rent calculations, and annual reconciliations.
Partner closely with property management on variance analysis, budgets, collections, and deadlines.
Work in MRI (or similar CRE accounting platforms) to maintain accurate ledgers and reporting.
What We’re Looking For
3+ years of commercial property accounting experience (retail, office, mixed-use).
Clear, consistent job stability and demonstrated success managing a property portfolio.
Strong understanding of GAAP, tenant recoveries, straight-line rent, and percentage-rent concepts.
Proficiency with MRI or comparable real estate accounting systems.
Ability to meet tight reporting timelines and communicate effectively with internal and external partners.
