Overview The Human Resources department is seeking a full‑time Leave of Absence & Benefits Specialist. The specialist will coordinate and manage leave of absence programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws (FMLA, PFL, Workers Compensation, Disability, Military, etc.). The role serves as the primary point of contact for employee leave of absence program inquiries and assists with benefits administration processes.
Compensation Base pay range: $60,000 – $70,000 per year. Salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and other individualized factors. The position is overtime‑eligible and includes an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of a diverse community.
Responsibilities
Prepare, complete, and maintain required correspondence and forms for leave of absence administration.
Process and maintain accurate records and reports of all leave activities.
Advise employees on leave of absence procedures.
Assist with managing ADA accommodations and related processes.
Respond to benefits inquiries from employees and administer health and welfare plans and wellness programs.
Coordinate with payroll, leave of absence vendors, and union disability departments.
Prepare and process New York State Paid Family Leave compliance filings.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Three years of experience in benefits administration.
In‑depth knowledge of leave of absence programs and federal and state laws (e.g., HIPAA, FMLA, PFL).
Proven knowledge of benefits and HRIS systems.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
Benefits‑related certifications (e.g., CEBS, SHRM).
Physical Demands
Must remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
Must occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
Must be able to move around the museum.
