Assistant Project Manager II (Overnight Shift, Data Center Construction) The Assistant Project Manager II (APMII) builds on the skills and experience gained from the APM I role and provides critical support to the Project Manager on data center construction projects, specifically during overnight operations. Working under direct supervision, the APMII manages trade partners, assists with procurement and buyout, and oversees the change management process. Integrated into the nighttime field management team, the APMII helps maintain continuity between day and night operations and is expected to mentor others in foundational project procedures. This role plays a key part in ensuring 24/7 progress on fast‑paced, mission‑critical data center builds.

Primary Duties Project Support & Coordination

Support the Project Manager in completing tasks and assignments during overnight operations.

Coordinate work with owner representatives, commissioning agents, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors working night shifts.

Review project contract documents, specifications, and drawings with a focus on MEP‑heavy data center scopes.

Identify and assist in resolving field and design issues that arise during overnight work.

Meetings, Documentation & Communication

Participate in or lead nighttime coordination meetings to manage labor, sequencing, and MEP integration.

Document updates for owner meetings and ensure seamless handoff to daytime management teams.

Maintain accurate logs of nightly progress, issues, and safety observations.

Quality, Compliance & Field Support

Ensure work performed overnight meets data center quality standards, commissioning requirements, and contract specifications.

Develop and manage non‑compliance lists and ensure corrective actions are tracked.

Provide field support to superintendents and project managers to maintain contract compliance, quality control, and site organization.

Assist with project close‑out activities, including punch list coordination during overnight shifts.

Trade Management & Preconstruction Support

Develop scopes of work for subcontractors, particularly MEP, low‑voltage, and critical‑systems trades.

Perform constructability reviews with a focus on data center infrastructure (electrical rooms, mechanical yards, white space, etc.).

Attend preconstruction meetings with subcontractors prior to each phase of work.

Schedule & Production Tracking

Monitor overnight field progress against the project plan and assist in developing recovery plans when needed.

Support quality control in accordance with the project’s QA/QC program, including MEP inspections and equipment installation verification.

Assist in developing and updating the CPM schedule and communication nightly progress to the Scheduler.

Maintain and update the site logistics plan for overnight operations.

Track critical path production charts and forecast progress for mission‑critical systems.

Participate in bid package preparation and procurement activities.

Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with bid openings and tabulations.

Draft subcontracts and purchase orders using company templates.

Manage the change management process, including soliciting, reviewing, and preparing IOCCs with proper backup.

Initiate, prepare, review, track, and distribute RFIs and submittals.

Reporting & Documentation

Document technical, financial, and personnel aspects of the project as they relate to overnight operations.

Assist in preparing monthly owner project status reports, including EOJ documentation.

Participate in EOJ reviews and support cost‑to‑complete updates.

Safety Responsibilities

Uphold all Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices during overnight operations.

Refuse unsafe work and ensure all nighttime activities comply with OSHA, company, and site‑specific safety requirements.

Report incidents, near hits, and hazards immediately.

Participate in safety inspections, pre‑shift meetings, and required training.

Ensure trade partner compliance with safety protocols during night shifts.

Provide suggestions to improve safety and maintain a mature, proactive approach to working safely.

Other Duties

Perform additional tasks as assigned by Project Management to support the successful completion of the data center project.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (experience may substitute).

Minimum of two (2) years of industry experience.

Experience managing trades, preferably in MEP‑intensive or mission‑critical environments.

Knowledge of engineering principles and basic business concepts for cost monitoring.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).

Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, blueprints, installation manuals, and engineering/architectural drawings.
